G&A Partners' client is currently seeking an Orthopedic Physician Assistant to join its team in Houston, TX. This position is open to candidates that are willing to relocate to the Houston area and includes relocation assistance.

 

Summary

Responsible for providing medical care as delegated by supervising physician(s). Responsibilities include assisting the physician in both the office and facility setting, seeing patients with a variety of orthopedic injuries and illnesses, assisting in the operating room, and treating patients in the office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
  • Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons/staff.
  • Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Assesses, applies and/or removes a variety of orthopedic casts, splints, and immobilization devices.
  • Responds to emergencies and provides the appropriate care.
  • Serves as assist-at-surgery for orthopedic procedures with supervising physician.
  • Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, applies appropriate codes and charges for service, and assists in provision of continuity of care.
  • Dictates patient records including discharge summaries, history and physical evaluations, operative procedure notes, consultations, and office visit notes. Documents patient information and care provided in patient record. Uses computer to access/enter needed data.
  • Reviews clearances, test results, medical histories, and patient questionnaires to compile H&Ps, surgery orders, post-operative medications and discharge instructions for surgery patients.
  • Rounds on hospital inpatients as directed by supervising physician(s) to hospitals assigned and performs emergency room and floor consultations as assigned.
  • Instructs and counsels patients regarding compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens.
  • Provides continuity of care by consulting with physicians and other staff as necessary for the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Evaluates, prescribes, and provides treatment for patients seen as hospital consults, including ER consultations and patients seen in the clinic.
  • Participates in research studies as conducted and agreed upon by the physician. Maintains all requirements and documentation for state licensure, DEA licensure, NCCPA certification, and hospital staff privileges.
  • Enhances professional growth through a commitment to ongoing education programs, conferences and workshops. Regularly participates in professional conferences specific to area of supervision and expertise.

Qualifications

Education required:

  • Graduate of AMA accredited physician assistant program.

 

Experience required:

  • Prior experience in the field of orthopedic surgery is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience as a physician assistant.

Professional license or certification requirements:

  • Current in the following:
    • Texas PA license
    • Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
    • DEA licensure 
    • Medical staff privileges at required facilities.
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license to travel to facilities, other clinic offices, and meetings.
