G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Camp Metro Day Camp Unit Counselor to join its team in San, Antonio, TX.

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) is a collection of activities and experiences where girls earn badges, sell cookies, go on exciting trips, explore the outdoors, and participate in or lead take-action projects that make a difference. The GSLE empowers girls to discover their own world as they develop a strong sense of self and strengthen values, connect with others in a global community as girls form caring relationships, promote cooperation and embrace diversity, and take action in the world as girls identify and solve problems they care about.

 

We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following Summer Day Camp positions at Camp Metro. Camp Metro is a day camp program held at the West Side Girl Scout Leadership Center at Coronado/Escobar in San Antonio.

 

Unit Counselor 1 (Reports to Camp Director)

 

Position Purpose: Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The counselor is responsible for planning, teaching, coordinating, and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes.
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
  • Assures campers are properly supervised at all times.
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes.
  • Responsible for leading or assisting with the teaching of activities.
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned.
  • Provide for a progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
  • Assist in all camp activities as directed.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff.
  • Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
  • Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by Nurse.
  • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with camp health manager and/or camp director when appropriate.
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp director.
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
  • Represent the camp when interacting with parents or community members.
  • Provide parents with appropriate feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
  • Follow safety and security protocols when campers are in public while presenting a positive image of the camp.
  • Provide supervision for campers while campers are transported to and from camp or during scheduled field trips off of camp property.
  • Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
  • Follows and adheres to National and Council policies, procedures, and plans. 
  • Operates according to ACCT standards and local operational procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR by the American Red Cross.
  • Ability to interact with all age levels.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a background check. 
  • Reliable transportation required.
  • Willingness to work as a team member. 
  • Be flexible, energetic, and have a good sense of humor. 
  • Girl Scouts experience is a plus. 
  • Experience working with children for a minimum of 1 year.
  • Attend training sessions May 28 – 31 and June 3 - 7, 2024
  • Must be available for camp sessions June 10 – July 26, 2024. (Camp will not be in session July 1 – July 5, 2024.) 

Physical Demands:

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include heavy visual acuity.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen.
  • The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands or arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
