G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Patient Services Specialist to join its team in Houston, TX.

 

Summary

Under general supervision and according to prescribed procedures, greets patients, prepares forms, collects, verifies and enters patient information into Modernizing Medicine as necessary for the timely and accurate processing of patient claims.

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service to all patients and employees
  • Prepares paper work necessary for the patient visit
  • Assembles patient charts, new and established, with face sheet, charge ticket and physician specific forms and initiates charts to the clinic.
  • Greets and registers patients
  • Verifies and reviews patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy, completeness, obtains patient signatures and scans patient insurance cards
  • Enters data on any updates/changes in insurance information and demographics, provides patients with HIPAA information and answers basic questions concerning their insurance
  • Reviews schedules for next day appointments for needed information, due balances and needed referrals. Obtains authorization if required
  • Schedules new and recheck appointments for patients when necessary
  • Oversees waiting area, reports problems or irregularities to practice administrator /team lead
  • Answers phone, screens calls, takes messages and provides information in pleasant and helpful manner
  • Maintains patient flow
  • Scans appropriate information into electronic health record
  • Notifies patient of the need of insurance authorizations when necessary
  • Posts charges into Modernizing Medicine according to charges marked on encounter form. Obtains missing information from provider
  • Accepts cash, check and credit card payments from patients at time of service according to the TOS policy
  • Collects past-due balances or refers patients to appropriate person for payment plan set-up
  • Follows Time of Service and EoD policy for collection of payments
  • Balances cash drawer at the beginning and end of each day and as required during the day
  • Prepares end of day paperwork and places in designated area

  • Applies HIPAA rules in regards to privacy/release of medical information and works in a confidential matter concerning the physicians, clinic policies and procedures, and maintains patient confidentiality
  • Adheres to OSHA guidelines

Qualifications

Education & Certification

  • High school graduation or GED/BLS Certification

Experience

  • Minimum of three years medical office experience

Performance Requirements:

  • Knowledge
    • Knowledge of the practice’s policies and procedures.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance practices.
    • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation for effective communication.
    • Knowledge of computer programs and applications.
  • Skills
    • Skill in using office equipment and in handling paperwork and filing adequately.
    • Skill in handling incoming phone calls and triaging appropriately.
    • Skill in written and verbal communication.
    • Skill in gathering, interpreting, and reporting insurance information.
  • Abilities
    • Ability to work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff.
    • Ability to interpret and understand insurance benefits and reimbursement.
    • Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Ability to communicate clearly.
    • Ability to work with little supervision.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and providers.
    • Ability to accept direction and guidance from Practice Administrator/Team Lead.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment in completing job duties.
