The Accountant is responsible for overseeing daily accounts payable, handling internal overhead tasks, and processing semi-monthly payroll, ensuring transactions are accurately and promptly allocated. This role involves handling tight deadlines and a variety of accounting duties, including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, and supporting budget and forecast activities. The ideal candidate is team-oriented, proactive, and goal-driven, with the ability to work independently and exercise judgment to resolve issues within established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Timely review and process accounts payable invoices
  • Ensure accurate payroll processing, including deductions for taxes, benefits, and other items
  • Reconcile payroll with the general ledger and monthly bank statements
  • Review and post customer payments and journal entries into the accounting system
  • Reconcile corporate bank accounts and perform various other accounting duties
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax reporting, including generating 1099s and W-2s
  • Crosstrain on various tasks to serve as backup for other finance team members
  • Communicate effectively and regularly with staff throughout the firm to ensure compliance with internal and external accounting practices
  • Support day-to-day activities necessary for the month-end and year-end close processes
  • Assist in annual audits, special projects, and system conversions/upgrades
  • Help with weekly, month-end, and quarterly business information management reporting

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 1-3 years of financial accounting experience in a project services environment, preferred
  • Familiarity with MS Dynamics or similar project accounting ERP systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of PrismHR for payroll or equivalent systems is valuable
  • Advanced skills in Excel and Outlook are required
  • Experience in the A/E/C or professional services industry is desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in an open office environment
  • Capable of meeting strict deadlines and managing multiple shifting priorities
  • Ability to produce accurate and timely deliverables
  • A team player who can establish collaborative working relationships
  • Results-driven and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently
  • Must demonstrate strong initiative and maintain confidentiality
