G&A Partners' client is currently seeking Overnight Summer Camp Counselors to join its team in Utopia, TX.

 

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) is headquartered in San Antonio, TX and serves more than 15,000 Girl Scouts (girls and adults) across twenty-one counties in southwest Texas. Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas (GSSWT) serves more than 10,000 girls and nearly 4,000 adult volunteers in a 21-county jurisdiction. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) is a collection of activities and experiences where girls earn badges, sell cookies, go on exciting trips, explore the outdoors, and participate in or lead take-action projects that make a difference. The GSLE empowers girls to discover their own world as they develop a strong sense of self and strengthen values, connect with others in a global community as girls form caring relationships, promote cooperation and embrace diversity, and take action in the world as girls identify and solve problems they care about.

We are currently looking for individuals to fill the following Overnight Summer Camp Counselors at Camp La Jita. La Jita, meaning “precious possession”, was aptly chosen as the name for our resident camp on the beautiful Sabinal River near Utopia, Texas. Camp La Jita rests on 236 acres of Texas Hill Country land, one hour and twenty minutes west of San Antonio.

 

Responsibilities

• Know each girl in the unit and share the interests of each.
• Supervise bedtime and wakeup routines.
• Ensure that girls arrive at a program prepared with appropriate clothing, materials, and levels of hygiene.
• Engage in conflict resolution between campers, as necessary.
• Be aware of the health and physical well-being of the campers and report any concerns to the Residential Camp Nurse.
• Ensure that campers receive their daily medications, if necessary.
• Work with Unit Leader 2’s to help girls plan and implement activities for the unit. Camp programs may include, but are not limited to, cookouts, hiking, games, art projects and camping out overnight.
• Assist and direct campers in daily camp chores (called Kapers).
• Communicate with camper guardians on drop-off/pickup days.
• Assist in drop-off / pick up day procedures.
• Report on any repairs or supplies needed to the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director or Administrative Assistant.
• Report on any behavioral concerns to Assistant Camp Director or Camp Director.
• Attend weekly staff meetings.
• Participate in all camp activities.
• Hold campers and other staff members to principles of the Girl Scout Law, to ensure a harmonious environment.
• Acts as a host/hostess for camp visitors and parents.
• Follows and adheres to National and Council policies, procedures, and plans.
• Operates according to ACCT standards and local operational procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
• Must enjoy working with youths on a one-on-one basis.
• Valid driver’s license and successful completion of a background check.
• Reliable transportation to and from camp site.
• Ability to reside at the camp property for the duration of the camp season and occasionally live in non-air-conditioned spaces with other staff members.
• Must be able to work the entire camp session from June 8th - July 25th, 2025 from 10:00 am Sunday morning until 6:00 pm the following Friday evening. Staff may stay on camp property over the weekend if necessary. (Camp will not be in session July 3-4, 2025).
• This position performs its duties indoors and in outdoor weather conditions. This position is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, requiring a tolerance to work in hot summer conditions. Not all sleeping arrangements will be climate controlled.
• Willingness to work as a team member.
• Prior residential camp experience a plus.
• Be flexible, energetic, and have a good sense of humor.
• Must be able to walk long distances.
• Girl Scouts experience is a plus.

 

General Information:
• GSSWT provides applicable training and certifications for hired staff.
• All meals and housing arrangements are covered by GSSWT for Overnight Camp positions.
• Location: Utopia, TX 78884
• Compensation: $560 per week
• All staff are considered role models to all campers at GSSWT overnight camps and are expected to participate in camp activities such as all evening camp activities, meals in the lodge, evening camper supervision, and camp check-in and check-out.
If selected for hire, a minimum of 3 references will be requested.

The starting range represents the low and high end of the G&A Partners’ range for this position. Actual wages will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of G&A’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include commissions, annual bonuses, and program specific rewards.
