G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Controller to join its team in Forth Worth,TX. 

 

The Controller will be responsible for managing the family office’s accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with tax regulations for both passive investments and active commercial real estate ventures. This role will require expertise in investment accounting, trust accounting, and real estate development finance.

Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the family office, including all trust and investment activities.
  • Manage the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with family office policies and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Provide detailed financial analysis and support for decision-making, highlighting key trends, financial performance, and variances.

2. Real Estate Accounting

  • Maintain accounting records for active commercial real estate development projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and tracking construction costs, capital expenditures, and operating income.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate recording of project costs, investments, and financing transactions.
  • Ensure proper allocation of development costs, including land acquisition, development costs, debt financing, and property management expenses.

3. Investment & Trust Accounting

  • Assist in managing and monitoring passive investment portfolios, including passive real estate holdings, equity investments, and other alternative assets. Monitor centralized investments email account, ensuring all communications related to investments are handled appropriately and promptly. Oversee passive investments, capital calls, gifts, and relevant notes. Provide Data and Analysis for New Investments & Capital Calls.
  • Oversee the calculation of returns on investments, ensuring proper valuation and performance tracking of all investment assets.
  • Track Family Assets and Loans ensuring accurate records are maintained.
  • Monthly Bank Statement Management for Family Bank Accounts
  • Prepare trust accounting statements, ensuring compliance with fiduciary responsibilities and accurate reporting of distributions, contributions, and taxes.
  • Maintain Trust Documents: Ensure that all trust-related documents and passive investment records are properly maintained and accessible via Share-Point.
  • Assist with maintaining Family Banking relationships, primarily Morgan Stanley.
  • Collaborate with legal professionals when necessary to create or review legal documents such as loan agreements, retitling documents, life insurance policies, etc.

4. Cash Flow Management

  • Monitor cash flow across the family office, including development, active and passive investment accounts, real estate ventures, and day-to-day operations.
  • Develop and manage cash forecasts, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations, distributions, and development projects.

5. Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, including but not limited to trust taxes, real estate taxes, and investment-related tax reporting.
  • Prepare for and manage internal and external audits, including responding to inquiries, preparing schedules, and providing necessary documentation.
  • Assist with compliance for all regulatory requirements related to family office operations, trust management, and real estate development.

6. Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, sponsors, legal advisor's, and tax professionals to ensure effective financial operations.
  • Provide regular financial guidance and reports to family office principal and president as well as family members and outside advisors on a quarterly basis.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

 

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field (CPA preferred, or equivalent experience).
  • Advanced Certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in accounting, including at least 5 years in a family office, commercial real estate development, or investment management.
  • Exposure to Estate Planning matters including revocable / irrevocable trusts, gifts and estates and relevant documents.
  • Proven experience with trust accounting, passive investments, and real estate development finance.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, real estate accounting principles, tax implications for trust and family office investments, and financial reporting.
  • Tax preparation/CPA firm experience preferred.

Computer Skills:

  • Strong Excel Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Microsoft Share-point Expertise
  • Advanced proficiency in Accounting Software (Sage Intacct, Real Page, Yardi, or other real estate-specific software preferred).

Preferred Skills:

  • High ethical standards and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
