G&A Partners' client is currently seeking a Landscape Construction Crew Member I to join its team in Austin,TX.

 

Summary

The Construction Crew Member is an entry-level crew member responsible for working with other team members on all areas of operations. Experience with complex landscape projects and/or work in welding and masonry is not required (if you have this type of experience, please see our Landscape Construction Crew member II posting.) Must be able to move soil androcks with a wheelbarrow, as well as constantly kneeling, crouching, squatting, pushing, pulling, and walking.

Responsibilities

  • The most important and essential need from for this role is a willingness to learn
  • Ability to problem solve and complete residential and commercial landscape projects to adhere to project specifications as well as existing site conditions
  • Some experience in working on carpentry projects such as decks, fences, pergolas, and trellises
  • Some experience in installing environmental and erosion control measures such silt fence, mulch socks, tree protection, fencing, and rock berms
  • Some experience in working on steel welding projects such as edging, fences, pergolas, planter boxes, retaining walls, and trellises
  • Some experience in working on masonry projects such as retaining walls, sidewalks, and patios
  • Some experience in lifting heavy objects, using hand tools, constantly kneeling, crouching, squatting, pushing, pulling, and walking
  • Some experience in working on irrigation systems under the supervision of a licensed irrigator
  • Some experience in planting small, medium, large, and very large plants including groundcover, shrubs, and trees
  • Some experience in trimming and remove weeds, dead plants and trees, and other general landscaping maintenance duties
  • Some experience in invasive grass and plant management through trimming, pruning, removal, and herbicide application
  • Some experience in operating hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery to effectively complete a given task
  • Some experience in working in a team to move large quantities of different landscaping materials around the job site

  • Active Listening - Giving full attention to instruction and others around you, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, not interrupting at inappropriate times and taking notes whenever is necessary

  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the pros and cons of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Equipment Cleaning and Maintenance – Responsible for performing routine cleaning, tidying, and maintenance on equipment, tools, trucks, and trailers and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed. Specifically responsible for recording, communicating, and carrying out preventative maintenance measures such as, but not limited to, oil changes, tire rotations, tire replacements, filter changes, and any other equipment and vehicle maintenance services
  • Equipment Selection - Determining the type of tools and equipment needed to complete a task
  • Installation - Installing equipment, materials, wiring, or programs to meet specifications
  • Instructing - Teaching others to complete tasks efficiently and effectively
  • Judgment and Decision Making - Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one
  • Learning Strategies - Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things
  • Management of Material Resources - Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work
  • Management of Personnel Resources - Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the task at hand
  • Operation and Control – Operating equipment or systems in a controlled manner with safety at the forefront
  • Repairing - Repairing machines or systems using the necessary tools
  • Social Perceptiveness - Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do
  • Speaking - Talking to others to convey information effectively and respectfully
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do

Qualifications

  • Level of Education: High School Graduate or GED
  • 1-3 years’ experience in any landscaping, construction, masonry, steel welding, arborist work, carpentry, and irrigation

Salary

Starting wage is $18.00/hr. up to $22.00/hr.

The starting range represents the low and high end of the G&A Partners’ range for this position. Actual wages will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of G&A’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include commissions, annual bonuses, and program specific rewards. In addition, G&A Partners provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, flexible spending, ancillary benefits, retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off (PTO).
